Global Investment in Renewable Energy

Global investment in renewable energy reached $241.6 billion in 2016, down 23% from 2015 according to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The UNEP report, Global Trends in Renewable Energy Investment 2017, found that the total investment level was the lowest since 2013, due in large part to falling costs and lower spending in some markets. However, the world added record levels of renewable energy capacity in 2016. The capacity reached 138.5 gigawatts, 8 percent more from 127.5 gigawatts in 2015.
